Sometimes a firm needs to import a newly developed product for research purposes or some type of equipment for testing or other purposes into India. Even if your product normally requires a specific certification to be imported, there are circumstances under which it is possible to import a product without certification.

For that it is primarily necessary to import the product strictly for internal purposes and not to be sold in India. If for example, a company has a need to ship a product for research or exhibition purposes, or really any other time restricted purpose, you may submit the relevant application at the responsible authority (ARAI for BIS, WPC, CDSCO or others), with the correct supporting documentation and you will receive an Exemption Notice for two months (to be extended to a maximum of six months). After the deadline your product will need to be sent out of India.

Please note that spare parts can only be shipped free of customs duties as if accompanied by the original invoice and other original purchasing documentation can be provided.
